Job Title: Installation and Repair (I&R) Fiber Technician Trainee
Location: TVEPA

Job Purpose: An entry-level developmental position designed to provide structured classroom and on-the-job training in fiber-optic installation, customer-premise equipment setup, troubleshooting, and outside plant operations, preparing the candidate to advance into a fully qualified Fiber Technician.

Primary Duties:

  • Install fiber drops from the TVIfiber network to residential and commercial customer premises.
  • Learn to install, terminate, and fusion splice fiber-optic cables and connectors.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot customer-premise equipment for high-speed fiber internet and VoIP telephone services.
  • Operate fiber and electrical testing tools, including OTDRs, optical light meters, light sources, and multimeters.
  • Perform site surveys to determine optimal equipment and Wi-Fi placement, leaving customer property in clean, proper condition.
  • Accurately complete work orders, documenting materials used, equipment installed, and network changes.
  • Assist with outage restoration, emergency response, and maintenance activities as needed.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational, technical, or military technical background preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in telecommunications, low-voltage wiring, electrical, or networking preferred, but TVEPA is willing to train candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and work ethic.
  • Skills & Licenses: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required. Good mechanical problem-solving skills, basic computer proficiency, professional customer communication, and willingness to obtain pole-climbing and safety certifications.

Work Environment: Involves both indoor and outdoor field work across varying terrain and weather conditions. Requires lifting/carrying 60+ lbs., working from ladders, climbing utility poles, and participating in irregular hours, emergency storm response, or on-call rotations as training progresses.
